Welcome to the Crowdsource by Google Blog!
Team Crowdsource, May 2020
Greetings! Crowdsource by Google is a way for you to help make the world a more inclusive place, by participating in fun activities that train Google's artificial intelligence (AI) systems to more accurately understand more languages and cultures, and make Google services work even better for your own community and region.
But Crowdsource is much more than that! It's also a global community of Crowdsource participants. They've organized meetups, photowalks, and currently virtual gatherings to share their enthusiasm and ideas, and most of all, to build new friendships over a shared passion.

Whether you're already familiar with Crowdsource by Google, or if this is the first time you've even heard of it, this blog will keep you up-to-date regarding Crowdsource activities, announcements, educational materials, events, and the global Crowdsource community.
You mean that I can help AI systems?
Absolutely! AI systems form an integral part of many Google services that you use everyday, including Gmail, Photos, Translate, Assistant, and many more.
Google Assistant's ability to understand and reply to questions in a growing array of languages is dependent on AI learning more about languages, their dialects, local slang, intonations, and the associated cultural references that people use in their everyday communications. Even a seemingly simple concept like "exotic foods" has different meanings in different cultures and locations, that need to be understood to answer your queries about such foods correctly. Through the vast scale and diversity of the Crowdsource community, you help train Google’s ML models and AI to make information more accessible and useful for billions of people around the world.
Very cool! How do I get started with Crowdsource by Google?
It's easy! Either use our Android app or go directly on our website, and you can choose from an array of simple, fun activities that are easy for people around the world to do, but that AI is still learning about. These systems learn by examining very large numbers of examples, and that's where you come in.
The tasks within the Crowdsource app directly help us make Google products and services work better for you. For example, sentiment analysis helps teach Google's AI to better understand the meaning expressed in text. Google Maps can use such training to provide more useful reviews -- providing information about the various aspects of locations -- to make your decisions about visiting those places easier without your needing to dig through thousands of reviews!
When you contribute to the translation tasks in Crowdsource, you are directly helping AI systems for Google Translate become better at understanding your native language.
With image label verification and image contribution, you are making AI systems become better at understanding the world around us. You are helping products like Photos and Lens to recognize your local food, attire, traditions and culture.
