Tell us about how your journey with Crowdsource began.

Desty: I joined as the first member in Crowdsource from Indonesia on August 2019. It all began when I heard about the platform and what it can do for our culture and languages. I was inspired and till this day our community spirit keeps me going every single day.
It was a total surprise when an organization reached out to me considering my influencer profile. I was offered a role as a technical writer with a software company as they found me proficient in technical skills, English along with indigenous languages.
Diany: I was introduced to the platform by my sister Desty and she helped me understand how I can contribute. I have been part of the community since then and help with various contributions on the platform.
Dini: I was earlier in a job profile which required me to travel abroad along with officials. That is when I realized that my communication in English could have been better. In 2020 my siblings introduced me to Crowdsource and since then, I try to contribute to the best of my ability. I wish I could give more hours to the effort.

What does Crowdsource mean to you? What motivates you to be a Crowdsource influencer ?

Desty: I only learnt English as a language in school. I actually started picking up English when I was first introduced to Crowdsource at an event. I realized that I could learn so much and develop my knowledge of the language and with that I could put a spotlight on Indonesia’s culture and traditions. The Crowdsource community has provided me with a platform to learn so many skills. It's also where I picked up public speaking, program management, ability to influence people and bring them in as influencers and contributors. It’s almost like picking up a life skill.
Diany: The community is like a family to me, it allows us all to brainstorm and come up with the best ideas. Indonesia has such a rich and varied culture and with it comes the culinary aspect. My motivation to become an influencer comes from the need to share Indonesia’s culture and culinary traditions with the rest of the world.
Dini: The Crowdsource community is very tight knit and we learn so much from each other. For me it was particularly about sharpening my skills in English which I knew will come handy in my life. But the interaction with the community and exposure to so many cultures and thought processes has made me a better person. As I am the last one amongst the sisters to join the platform, both Desty and Diany have helped me understand the platform better and contribute meaningfully to the cause. The small competitions that we have between each other, to see myself outrank my sisters on the leaderboard, is really fun and also encourages me to perform.

What makes your local community special?

Desty: As a community, Indonesian contributors are very united. Even through the pandemic, we initiated various online events, including an event to introduce Crowdsource and culture from various cities in Indonesia. I hope we are all able to meet in person by the end of this year or early 2023.

What comes to your mind when you hear Quality Contribution (on Crowdsource)?

Indonesia has more than 700 local languages and while we have Google Translate available in Indonesian, we would love to have Javanese and Sundanese also pick up and perhaps 7 more local languages that we can bring to the platform by our efforts. Sundanese language contributions are low compared to Indonesian or Javanese and the native speakers of the language are also smaller. In terms of a Quality contribution we want to make Sundanese community contributions come up in Crowdsource which would help its indigenous population access the world.
The other piece that we are interested in, is sharing our varied food with the world, using food facts, food labels, compare feature etc. We would love to make contributions to Image search so that when a dish comes up, you not only know what it is but also from which part of the world it comes from. It would help our cuisines get more front and center with the world.

What is the one thing you’ll do this year to spread awareness about quality contribution in your local community?

We just hope that as a community we can meet in-person and hold our campaigns across all provinces in Indonesia. As you know Indonesia is spread across so many islands, it is difficult to co-ordinate and make sure we have representatives from all languages, provinces and ethnic groups. We hope our annual event takes place offline this time and we are able to add more influencers and contributors and expand our sphere of influence.
We are also trying to get college and university students as well to contribute, because they are in the learning stage and are more tech savvy. This should also help expand Crowdsource communities. We would like to expand into other categories like traditional music, clothing and dance forms as well.
Not to forget our leaderboards, that’s also something that we will try and get to the top spots and make a race for it amongst ourselves.

Try Crowdsource. Make a difference.
